New Theme - Jesus, the Radical
Jesus is a radical, controversial figure who shapes all of creation! The question ‘Who is Jesus to you and who are you to Jesus?’ defines eternity! Where ever Jesus went, there were encounters with God and people’s lives were changed.
Nowadays, His name is a swearword or a badge to enable and embolden people to act in a certain way. The radical sharp edge of his words and works have been dulled by familiarity, misuse and the church not actually doing what he said! Sometimes, we take Jesus’ literal words and apply them non-literally and/or do the reverse, apply figurative teaching literally.
This season in Sion we are going to look at Jesus in Luke’s Gospel, starting in Luke 4. We will be asking what Jesus is doing, what is Jesus teaching, what does it mean for us and what we should do about it.
Remember in John 14:12-14, Jesus said
12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
This Season should be controversial, we should be deeply challenged. The question is how will you respond? Will you walk away, try to stone Jesus or follow him.
